M<\/span><\/strong>y name is Pardis Lakzadeh<\/span><\/strong> and I\u2019<\/span>m a graduate from the Faculty of Integrated Sciences<\/span><\/strong> in the area of Human Nutrition<\/span><\/strong> and Immunology<\/span><\/strong>. My focus was on understanding the impact of Nutrition<\/span><\/strong> on overall health and more specifically the relationship between nutrients and the immune system. I was first introduced to this area of research in FNH 355 International Nutrition<\/span><\/strong>, taught by Judy McLean<\/span><\/strong> herself! I was immediately taken in by the complexity of the problems surrounding nutrition globally<\/span><\/strong>, and was very impressed with the innovative solutions offered. This new found interest motivated me to follow up this course with FNH 455 Applied International Nutrition<\/span><\/strong>, and it was here that I first learned about Fish on Farms<\/span><\/strong>. I knew immediately that I would like to be involved and here I am 6 months later. Over the next few months together with Hellene Sarin<\/span> <\/strong>I will be updating the blog<\/span> <\/strong>posts and twitter<\/span><\/strong> account, to keep you updated on the exciting progress of Fish on Farms.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

My name is Hellene Sarin<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>and I will be working with Pardis Lakzadeh<\/span><\/strong> over the next few months<\/span><\/span>. I am from Phnom Penh<\/span><\/strong>, and a fourth year student majoring in Natural Resources Conservation<\/span><\/strong> in the Faculty of Forestry<\/span> at UBC<\/span><\/strong>. Building on my experience from last summer in Cambodia<\/span><\/strong> where I was involved in the\u00a0research evaluation<\/span><\/strong> of a voucher program for reproductive health, through qualitative research that has a strong focus on gender analysis<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0with FoF, I hope to gain a better understanding of the problems that surround\u00a0nutrition<\/span><\/strong> issues in a developing country.<\/span>\u00a0I am also really excited to learn more about Participatory Rural Appraisal tools<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0throughout the project\u00a0and how the integration of aquaculture into\u00a0homestead food production<\/span><\/strong> works to improve nutrition and livelihood of the people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
