I think everyone within the teaching and learning community can benefit from reviewing these tips and suggestions. So here it is:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If you are starting off as a TA at your graduate school, it&#8217;s always a good idea to familiarize yourself with your University&#8217;s policy on the appointment of graduate students and the TA guideline provided by your department. You can find UBC resources here:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cupe2278ubc.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/09\/quick-guide-sep-2018.pdf\">A quick guide for TAs<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.ubc.ca\/Documentation:CTLT_Resources\/Teaching_Assistants\">UBC CTLT list of resources\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Your department and University are very likely to offer TA workshops and training programs; these are free programs and will also add weight to your CV. These will be used for interacting &amp; communicating with the students, and to maintain and update grades and student rosters. I mostly use Canvas and\u00a0 My Econlab.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">i) <strong>CANVAS:<\/strong> This is a Learning management system offered by UBC and is used by most VSE\u00a0 faculty. \u00a0I have curated a short and comprehensive playlist for Canvas- you will learn how to a) organize content, b) Post Announcements, c) Create Assignments, and d) Upload and Maintain Grades.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynda.com\/SharedPlaylist\/5a077cfc321a4c7388a8af951313f9d6\">https:\/\/www.lynda.com\/SharedPlaylist\/5a077cfc321a4c7388a8af951313f9d6<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">ii) <strong>MyLab<\/strong>: is a learning management system for Pearson textbooks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u00a0Here is a screencast of my session with a TA, where we discuss how to enter grades and manage class list<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLodnYOww5O-wD3QalMcuMx3r_k5VPJUWd\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLodnYOww5O-wD3QalMcuMx3r_k5VPJUWd<\/a><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Advice from your senior TAs is the most useful resource for any newcomer.
