Evaluation

This workshop was designed according the theory which essentially states that learning is an active process in which learners construct meaning from experience using culture to guide them as they do so. In this school of thought teachers serve as a guide to students who are in control of their learning. There are many variations to this theory as there are instructional models. Three models that were looked at for ETEC 530 were the CIM, POE and CCM that are described below.

After learning about the models please complete and upload the evaluation for this workshop on msn Skydrive

Constructivist Instructional Model (CIM)

    1. Identify learners’ views and ideas (prior knowledge);
    2. Create opportunities for the learners to explore their ideas and test their robustness in explaining phenomena, accounting for events and making predictions;
    3. Provide stimuli for students to develop, modify and where necessary, change their ideas and views;
    4. Support their attempts to rethink and reconstruct their ideas and views.

Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) :

    1. Given a situation, learners are asked to predict and explain the next outcome;
    2. Learners test their predictions and explanations by making accurate observations;
    3. Check observations against their predictions and explanations;
    4. If the observation is inconsistent with their predictions and explanations, then a search for appropriate explanation should be promoted;
    5. New understanding should be reinforced through practice problems, questions and activities.

Conceptual Change Model (CCM) is about learners’ learning

    1. To seek new understanding, there must exist a dissatisfaction with the existing conception;
    2. The new concept must be intelligible (meaningful);
    3. The new concept must also be plausible (reasonable);
    4. The new concept must be fruitful (able to satisfactorily resolve the mental conflict or dissonance).

The 5e Learning Cycle model

I addition I came accross the 5e Learning Cycle model on the web. This model is outlined below

Engagement :- Object, event or question used to engage students. Connections facilitated between what students know and can do.

Exploration :-  Objects and phenomena are explored. Hands-on activities, with guidance.

Explanation :- Students explain their understanding of concepts and processes. New concepts and skills are introduced as conceptual clarity and cohesion are sought.

Elaboration :- Activities allow students to apply concepts in contexts, and build on or extend understanding and skill.

Evaluation :- Students assess their knowledge, skills and abilities. Activities permit evaluation of student development and lesson effectiveness.

Even if this workshop was not directly structured to this model I will like to see how many elements of  it are present here.
