Records of hunting with dogs go as far back as societies of the Assyrian, Babylonians and Egyptians.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/hunting-hounds-Bardo-Museum.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17\" title=\"Hunting with Hounds\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/hunting-hounds-Bardo-Museum-300x179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/hunting-hounds-Bardo-Museum-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/hunting-hounds-Bardo-Museum.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Foxes were not hunted for centuries, however, as many other animals were hunted into extinction in the areas throughout history, such as bears, beavers, wolves, and boars. It wasn\u2019t until around the 1500\u2019s that the first record of a fox hunt occurred in the town of Norfolk, England, where farmers would chase down foxes with a pack of dogs to protect their livestock.\u00a0 By the 17<sup>th<\/sup> century, people began to raise packs of dogs specifically for the purpose of hunting small animals, such as hare and fox. Within the next century, packs began to appear that were dedicated for the sole purpose of hunting foxes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/1718.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18\" title=\"Hunt\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/1718-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/1718-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/1718-410x300.jpg 410w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/foxhunting\/files\/2012\/04\/1718.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was around this time that a class distinction began to appear in the popularity of the sport.
