Audio using Garage Band and Audacity
Since sound is a big part of what I do for a living, Garage Band and Audacity are on my list of regular tools. I find audacity is really good for doing things like changing the tempo of an mp3 (to dance to for instance) and I use garage band with my kids because it is easy.
I had a Student who dug around and found this software for PC which is strikingly similar to Garage Band in many ways (for those of you who don’t have a Mac) They have a free trial if you want to check it out.

I have also embedded a little tune that my kids did as a project (their own composition) I liked it! UBC WordPress seems to be clipping the mp3 to mere seconds, which is frustrating, so I have linked it to a google page. (there are ways around this!)

I’ve not used Garage Band since it was first released. I think I was transitioning from being an underemployed person with lots of mental bandwidth for exploring new technologies, to a persons whose job is challenging. I get home nowadays and find I’m disinclined to explore.
I like how you examine things purposefully and made your technological selections thereafter. More educators need to.

Thanks, one of the things I am very passionate about is not using tools, or methods, (or songs) just because they are there. I try to have a purpose for whatever I do.
GarageBand is fun, but I just got the new version and it is *so* different from the old one that my summer may be spent figuring it out, so that I can at least sound like I have a clue when kids ask questions.
I can relate to the wanting downtime when you get home, sometimes I just need silence but there always seems to be music playing in my house. Occupational hazzard I guess.
