FREN 101 is a multi-section course. Some elements will vary from section to section and instructor to instructor: coursework, the class sessions themselves, selections and order of course materials in any given week (for example moving an item to a different day, dividing it over two sessions, or moving it from class time to preparation or to homework), teaching style and approach, individual tastes and aesthetics …
The following elements are in common across all sections:
- the required course materials
- the written chapter tests and oral tests and their dates
- based on the required course materials
- in class time, in person
- the final written exam and its date and time
- based on the required course materials
- in the final exam period, in person
A general version of the syllabus will be posted here in September.
Students registered in FREN 101 will be sent the syllabus (in PDF) for their specific class / section by their instructor at the start of term; we do that by email through UBC WorkDay. Expect to receive that by or on your first day of class (Wednesday 9 or Thursday 10 September, depending on which section you are in). Faculty might also choose to use UBC Canvas or other institutionally-hosted platforms and tools to organise their course and centralise communications with you; whether they choose to use something, to what extent, and how is a matter of individual teaching style and academic freedom. In accordance with UBC policy, faculty will use their UBC email in all communications with you; and via some combination of UBC WorkDay, Outlook, and Canvas (Message and Announcements).
