attentes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(version g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, en anglais)<\/p>\n<p>AIMS &amp; OBJECTIVES<\/p>\n<p>This course aims to provide you with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>several sorts of reading skill: especially a very slow, careful, attentive, meticulous close-reading, that includes rereading<\/li>\n<li>some basic but fundamental research skills: the collection and sorting of data, prior to its analysis and use; from\/within our texts<\/li>\n<li>the development, enhancement, and honing of thinking skills<\/li>\n<li>vocabulary and techniques for the analysis and criticism of literary texts<\/li>\n<li>adeptness at the craft of writing: from short pithy paragraphs to long essays; constructing sound arguments; using textual evidence and good reasoning; with an emphasis on commentary, analysis, and critique: the \u00ab\u00a0close writing\u00a0\u00bb that parallels close reading<\/li>\n<li>(main objective) competence in writing commentaries&#8211;L&rsquo;ANALYSE DE TEXTE, LE COMMENTAIRE&#8211;and essays&#8211;LA DISSERTATION LITT\u00c9RAIRE<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>and a sense of literary texts in context:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>foundational knowledge about the Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern Francophone world:<\/li>\n<li>principally its literature;<\/li>\n<li>supplemented by the broad lines of its cultural and historical background;<\/li>\n<li>and the wider backdrop: European culture before c. 1700, the pre-modern world, world literature, continuing and contemporary literary issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\/I also hope(s) to provide you with, as a bonus,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a love for learning<\/li>\n<li>some enjoyment and pleasure<\/li>\n<li>an awareness of literature&rsquo;s potential as an infinite resource of comfort and consolation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>EXPECTATIONS<\/p>\n<p>What you should expect from this course:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for part of the week, a classic but somewhat more interactive lecture format (LE COURS MAGISTRAL)<\/li>\n<li>for part of the week: discussion, work in groups and individually, intensive writing in a workshop style (L&rsquo;ATELIER D&rsquo;\u00c9CRITURE)<\/li>\n<li>reading<\/li>\n<li>rereading shorter passages<\/li>\n<li>to think while reading, and to make notes<\/li>\n<li>writing, every week: most of this will be short, and it is intended to be non-traumatic but intensive<\/li>\n<li>an increase in the quality of your writing<\/li>\n<li>to separate out and handle responsibly and competently: facts, arguments, aesthetic judgments, value-judgments;
