As a FT MBA student, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to apply for a number of Global Learning offerings. These include the required Global Immersion Experience \u2013 one of the main highlights of UBC MBA, and optional opportunities such as Exchange, Global Network Weeks and Global Network Courses. \u00a0The optional Global Opportunities are in Year 2 of your FT MBA. Our semester exchange with global exchange partners will give you a chance to select from a range of options during your last term of UBC MBA. Plus, we\u2019re the only Canadian school to give you access to the Global Network for Advanced Management, spearheaded by the Yale School of Management. The Global Learning Calendar below provides a timeline overview for the FT MBA 2024 Global Opportunities for your second year.<\/p>\n

Once your selection in the Global Opportunities is confirmed, please adjust your schedule accordingly. Global Immersion Experience<\/a><\/h3>

Global Immersion Experience 2023 dates: February 13-24, 2023 (Feb. 12-23, 2023 for GIE Israel)
\n<\/span><\/strong>The Global Immersion, a key component of the UBC MBA is part of the Business Strategy Integration course that seeks to expand the ideas around integrative problem solving. It is a 3-stage, experiential learning program focusing on business strategy, inter-cultural understanding, global business practices, and exposure to regional business trends and networks. The program will include 3 Classes before the trip, the trip itself in one of the three or four relevant destinations, and post-trip debrief to share learnings. The two week trip will include company visits, working in teams, cultural excursions and strategy shaping sessions with one of Sauder\u2019s world-class partner schools. The goal is for the students to gather first-hand knowledge about the business and culture of another region or country, and develop the confidence to work on the world stage.GIE 2023 Locations: Cape Town, South Africa; Madrid, Spain; Santiago, Chile; Tel Aviv, Israel

    Is participation mandatory?<\/strong>
    \nParticipation is mandatory for all students in the Full-Time MBA Program. Please review the     GIE Attendance Requirement Policy<\/a><\/p>\n

    What are the Travel Dates?<\/strong>
    \nThe FT MBA February exam period will end on Thursday, February<\/u> 9th<\/sup>, 2023 at 10 PM. Do not book flights until after the exam period is completed. International flights require passengers to arrive 2 hours before departure; therefore, flights leaving before midnight on February 9th<\/sup>, 2023 will not be an option. Missed exams will not be re-scheduled.<\/p>\n

    GIE Chile, Spain and South Africa<\/b>:
    \nBe sure to purchase tickets that arrive on location by Sunday Feb 12th<\/sup>. Your ticket to the destination should be for the duration of the program. The program will start on Monday Feb 13th<\/sup> and the last program day in location will be Friday,<\/u> February 24h<\/sup><\/b>, so you can depart anytime from Saturday, February 25th<\/sup>. FT MBA students must return to Vancouver before Period 4 begins at 8:00 AM on March 6th<\/sup>, 2023.<\/p>\n

    GIE Israel:<\/b>
    \nBe sure to purchase tickets that arrive on location by Saturday Feb 11th<\/sup>. Your ticket to the destination should be for the duration of the program. The program will start on Sunday Feb 12th<\/sup> and the last program day in location will be Thursday,<\/u> February 23rd<\/sup><\/b>, so you can depart anytime from Friday, February 24th<\/sup>. FT MBA students must return to Vancouver before Period 4 begins at 8:00 AM on March 6th<\/sup>, 2023.<\/p>\n

    How much will it cost?<\/strong>
    \nApproximate budget for Global Immersion Experience is $5,000 and is not included in the tuition fees. The budget estimate includes flights, visas, accommodations, meals, local transit at host country, etc. Students are responsible for booking their own flights and paying for accommodations at RHL-selected hotel (all students in each destination must stay in the same hotel).<\/p>\n

    In 2023 students will also be responsible (if applicable) for the costs associated with Covid-19 travel regulations, such as Covid tests required at different stages of travel (flights, border crossing, etc.), and required additional travel and health insurance.<\/p>\n

    What is the GIE Course Fee? How do I pay it?<\/strong>
    \n$600 course fee is due as part of the online submission of your GIE application. This fee will cover cases, readings, and shared on-site costs, including but not limited to, ground transportation (chartered buses when needed), some group meals, entry fees, local fees, company gifts, etc. It does not cover airfare, transportation, accommodation or meals for the in-country portion of the course in February 2023<\/span>, except when provided meals have been indicated on each destination specific schedule.<\/p>\n

    At the end of your GIE destination preference submission\u00a0 you will be take to the course fee payment page. Payment can be made via credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or by paying directly from your bank account using the INTERAC Online service.<\/p>\n

    Will students be staying in the same hotel?
    \n<\/strong>Everyone in destination will be staying in the same hotel which will be arranged by the RHL office. The RHL will negotiate with the hotels to make the block booking and to secure rates for a range or rooms (single, double, triple). Within the arranged hotel, students will have a choice whether to book a single room or to opt for room sharing with other students in the group. Room sharing will be self-managed by the students.<\/p>\n

    Can I find my own accommodation? (book an Air B&B close to the group hotel, or find another place to stay?)<\/strong>
    \nNo. It is a GIE requirement that all students must stay in the same pre-arranged hotel.<\/p>\n

    Can my partner\/friend\/family member travel with me on GIE?
    \n<\/strong>No. GIE is an intensive, immersive experience, with a very busy schedule of activities, events and consulting project teamwork. It is also an important bonding time with your classmates. Your partners, friends, or family members are welcome to join you after<\/strong><\/span> the GIE program end, after February 24th<\/span>, but not during the 2-week program.<\/p>\n

    Will students need to have an entry visa?<\/strong>
    \nStudents are responsible for checking the requirements for entry into the GIE destination pertaining to their own citizenship. The purpose of travel should be selected as \"Tourism or Visit\". Students should check the requirements prior to GIE Destination application to make sure they will be able to enter the country\/obtain the entry visa.<\/p>\n

    Can students attend GIE in their own city\/region?<\/strong>
    \nStudents should elect to go to the city\/region where they have no or little experience.<\/p>\n

    Are the flights fixed or will there be allowed variations in departure\/arrival dates and times?<\/strong>
    \nVariation is allowed as long as everyone is on the ground by the pre-determined date\/time.<\/p>\n

    What is the application and selection process?<\/strong>
    \nStudents will be asked to submit their location choices in order of preference. The online application form will be open until October 10th, 2022. Applications will be reviewed all together after the deadline.\u00a0 Students must submit by the deadline to record their preferences. Students who do not submit by the deadline will be assigned destination based on availability.<\/p>\n

    If the demand exceeds the number of spots, allocation will be determined based on applications and assessment of ability to travel. Each destination cohort size is approximately 22-23 students. Destination cohorts are complete once announced to the students, with no switching between destinations.<\/p>\n

    What activities, companies and consulting projects will there be for each destination?<\/strong>
    \nGIE includes lectures, workshops, and visits\/talks with local companies, team projects and presentations, and cultural activities. We keep the themes broad to give students an opportunity to learn broadly about their destinations, but in some locations, themes organically emerge.<\/p>\n

    Can I chose my destination based on a company I want to work with?\u00a0<\/strong>
    \nNo, project are assigned by the RHL, so a specific company cannot be guaranteed. At this time, specific information on companies and consulting projects is not available. Each destination will have a program with a variety of companies represented and some unique cultural activities.<\/p>\n

    Are project teams assigned or self-selected? Can I chose which project I want to do? <\/strong>The teams and the projects are pre-assigned. The projects are sourced by the RHL for each destination, and no specific project\/Company can be guaranteed.<\/p>\n

    Will there be social\/cultural activities planned? Free time to explore the city\/country?<\/strong>
    \nYes, the program will include a social and cultural component as well as some time for exploring your surroundings. There will be a one-week break between the end of the Global Immersion trip and the start of Period 4 classes.<\/p>\n

    What happens if I get sick or test positive before or during the trip?<\/strong>
    \nThe RHL is working with UBC Go Global Safety Abroad to provide information to the students, traveling\u00a0 on GIE. We will go over the details in GIE Class 3 on January 24, 2023<\/strong>. We will also go over the logistics for the destinations at that time.<\/p>\n
