Program Overview<\/a><\/h3><\/p>\nA Snapshot of the UBC MBA Full-Time Program<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n- \n
\n- August 28 \u2013 September 1, 2023 (Opening Week): <\/strong><\/span>all students attend the mandatory orientation programming.<\/li>\n
- September \u2013 December 2023: <\/strong><\/span>all students complete the same foundation courses.<\/li>\n
- January \u2013 April 2024: <\/strong><\/span>students begin to specialize in their tracks while still completing some integrated and thematic courses together as a cohort.<\/li>\n
- May \u2013 August 2024: <\/strong><\/span>all students complete the BA 512 \u2013 BSI: Experiential Learning course (taking part in an internship, or completing an entrepreneurial project or industry project).<\/li>\n
- September \u2013 December 2024: <\/strong><\/span>all students complete mainly elective courses, some thematic courses, and one final integrated course together.<\/li>\n
- May 2025: <\/strong><\/span>Graduation!

\nKey terms you should know:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Foundation Courses: <\/strong><\/span>courses covering the basic business and management subjects. (Required for all students to complete)<\/li>\n
- Business Strategy Integration (BSI) Courses: <\/strong><\/span>courses which integrate across disciplines to develop your managerial decision-making skills. (Required for all students to complete)<\/li>\n
- Thematic Courses: <\/strong><\/span>courses covering five critical business skills that form the DNA of the UBC MBA program. (Required for all students to complete)<\/li>\n
- Track Courses:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>if you choose to declare a track you will have a certain number of courses that are required in order to earn the track designation on your transcript.<\/li>\n
- Elective Courses: <\/strong><\/span>all other courses offered in the program \u2013 each student chooses their own mix of courses to make up the remaining credits in the program.<\/li>\n
- Period:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>A period is 6 weeks long and is equivalent to half a Term. During the six (6) weeks, you will have five (5) weeks of instruction and one (1) week of exams. The MBA program is made up of 7 Periods that run from September 2023 until December 2024.<\/li>\n
- Course: <\/strong><\/span>A course\u00a0is scheduled within a Period and is worth 1.5 credits. MBA students are typically registered in 4-5 courses per Period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\nCourses will cover a variety of key subject areas. Not only will students learn the language of business, but they will develop the skills to understand business problems, make managerial decisions, and communicate solutions, both as individuals and as part of a team.<\/p>\n
In addition to regular courses, the program also includes Personal and Professional Development (PPD)\u00a0<\/strong>programming:<\/strong><\/p>\nWorking with the\u00a0Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre<\/a>\u00a0and a career coach, students will gain valuable career and professional development skills through a curriculum that includes self-assessment, research techniques, resume and cover-letter writing, interviewing, and networking. CPD will help students develop and polish professional skills that will serve them for the duration of their careers.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n

\nCourse Prerequisites:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>As students progress through the program, some courses will have prerequisites. A prerequisite is a course that has content that is integral for students to learn prior to taking the listed course. For example, in order to take some of the more advanced Finance courses, students need to have a good foundation in certain Finance content. Consequently many of the advanced Finance courses will have pre-reqs, which will be listed on the program schedule and the course record on the Student Service Centre (SSC).<\/p>\nTimetable:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>from the end of July onwards students will be able to view their class timetables on the\u00a0Student Service Centre<\/a>. Click on Course Schedule > Registration > Timetable. \nNOTES:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Students are required to attend all classes and mandatory career professional development sessions during each Period.<\/li>\n
- Dates for workshops, info sessions, make-up classes, and exams can change with limited notice. As such, it is expected that students do not book any travel to occur until after each Period\u2019s exam week is completely finished.<\/li>\n
- Exam schedules are subject to change so students are not to book any travel, appointments, interviews, etc. during exam week so time is reserved in case of emergency modifications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
