The presentation should be\u00a030\u00a0minutes, and the activity\u00a010-15 minutes. Ensure you do a practice run at home to stay on time. You will work in a group of two\u00a0people\u00a0to present an artist or documentary. How do they\u00a0represent\u00a0themselves and their work? How do\u00a0others\u00a0in the news or on social media? Are there interviews with the directors\/artists\/activists? (Check YouTube or Artist21 to see if there are\u00a0videos).\u00a0Focus on one specific piece or subject, or do a review of several; what is their chosen medium and why? What year was it created in, what was going on that year (is it a response to something?)\u00a0What inspired the piece (think about the artist\u2019s environment and background)?\u00a0Give some context and frame it for the class. Why did the artist\/activist \/documentary maker do it? What is\u00a0said, and\u00a0left\u00a0unsaid?<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335551550&quot;:0,&quot;335551620&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:210,&quot;335559739&quot;:411}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Components<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Presentation <\/b><strong>(30 mins.): <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Visuals are so important.<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0<\/span>Your presentation should curate the work of the selected artist, and can employ audio, video and photography, collage,\u00a0etc\u00a0Minimize\u00a0text in the presentation slides to a few words only, or better yet,\u00a0none at all.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Use strategies to engage the class<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" data-contrast=\"none\"><em>\u00a0<\/em>in the topic as you explore it (<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" data-contrast=\"none\">but do not make this at the expense of learning the full range of the artist<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" data-contrast=\"none\">), such as asking the class to engage with and interpret the work (and here, if you do, only pose short and clear questions, and one at a time, not multiple clustered together).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Activity<\/b><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"> (10-15 mins.): <\/strong><\/span>You must design a creative exercise to engage the class in the\u00a0thematic, inspired by the artist. Past students have used pedagogical strategies such as requesting the students to compose a poem,\u00a0convene\u00a0with trees, commit a random act of public art, sing together, and cook together. The idea is to collectively create something inspired by the artist, but\u00a0also,\u00a0to ensure it connects to a learning\u00a0objective\u00a0\u2013 what are we striving to achieve with this activity?<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Summary: <\/b><\/span>A<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em> one-page summary <\/em><\/span>of the presentation, including your intent and content, is <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>due the week after the presentation<\/em><\/span>.
