Abstract

Our project explored the coverage efficiency of the existing SkyTrain network and proposed a new transit system of Metro Vancouver. We looked for an alternative transport plan by drawing correlations with different census variables. To find out where the most residents are living, we gathered population and land areas of census tracts in Greater Vancouver, with reference to the 2016 Census by Statistics Canada. After identifying the most populated, we evaluated the coverage and efficiency of current SkyTrain system. We measured the proximity of existing SkyTrain stations to those census tracts by applying buffer and near functions. Furthermore, we tried finding the correlation between locations of transit stations to population density through Generalized Linear Regression analysis. Since there is no significant correlation, we proposed an improved SkyTrain system by plotting new stations and new routes in the end.
