Lab 1. Spatial Statistics using ModelBuilder tutorial

In this week’s lab we used ArcMap’s ModelBuilder application to create yearly hot spot maps of Heart Disease (HD). The data supporting the map was downloaded from CDC Wonder, an online database of public health data maintained by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. To define the spatial relationship between each rate of HD, we used the Generate Spatial Weight Matrix to construct a spatial weights matrix which was then used for the Hot Spot Analysis. Below (Figure 1) is one of the Hot Spot maps that was generated. It shows hot and cold spots of HD in Southern USA in year 2010.
