My motivation for studying urbanization in the global south is that I have always been fascinated with the dichotomy between the north and the south. In addition, I believe that it is important to truly understand the underlying causes which have resulted in the gap increasing between the “global north” and the “global south”
The reason for which infrastructure, more specifically housing, was the chosen theme is because it was very fascinating to be studying how different people operate and live in unique environments as well as what is being done to improve their living conditions. With regards to why Lagos was the selected city, the high growth rate of the population contrasted with various housing solutions to the housing issue stood out from other cities; resulting in our team choosing to focus on Lagos.
