Academic Concessions

UBC is developing a new policy for academic concessions.

Can I fill out a Student Self-Declaration Form or do I need to see an Advisor? Under the new concession policy,  students seeking a concession will either (a) go to see a student advisor or (b) fill in a Student Self-Declaration Form. Here is a process chart that outlines when it is appropriate to pick either option (a) or option (b).

Where do I get a Student Self-Declaration Form?  Faculty of Arts Advising has launched a refreshed concession webpage as well as a new, pilot online concession form that has a Student self-declaration form built into it. They have a pilot team of Advisors who are reviewing all requests in order to ensure our processes work effectively, and we are developing a rubric to guide our decision-making in this new policy environment. They would welcome any questions about the policy or specific decisions we are making. The email contact is: arts.advisor@ubc.ca.

Which Faculty are you in? While academic concession policy is consistent across all Faculties, academic concession practices are determined by a student’s home Faculty, and the policy provides each Faculty with latitude regarding decisions for in-term concessions. If you are a student in one Faculty taking a class in another faculty, this chart will identify whether your professor should make the decision regarding an in-term concession or refer you to your home Faculty Advising Office.

If I have questions, where do I go? For any queries regarding student concessions, students should contact Arts Advising, the Centre for Accessibility, or SVPRO. The email contact is: arts.advisor@ubc.ca.
