Project Timeline

September 2014:

  • Field trip to Cougar Creek and other surrounding alluvial fans
  • Conduct literature review on alluvial fan dynamics
  • Finish flume set-up
  • Run preliminary experiment (no sediment load) in order to test flume functionality
  • Develop experimental design based on preliminary experiment and literature review

October to December 2014:

  • Conduct an experiment in which a series of increasingly large flows are run through the
    experimental stream channel
  • Throughout this process, review results and develop codes to run analysis

January 2015:

  • Develop a report outlining the experiments and the results
  • Propose, based on the results, other future avenues of investigation
  • Start developing from Engage Plus grant application

February 2015:

  • Finish report
  • Wrap up meeting with UBC and BGC
  • Apply for Engage Plus grant
