Motivation

In June 2013, Alberta experienced a weather system that produced extreme, prolonged rainfall which resulted in catastrophic flooding and record high flows in many parts of the province. While many towns and cities, including Calgary, were hugely impacted due to the elevated water levels flooding infrastructure, the town of Canmore was driven into a state of emergency due to the rapid bank erosion that occurred of the banks of Cougar Creek, a usually small stream that runs through a residential area.
