The first experimental run was conducted on September 17th by Lucy MacKenzie. The flume was run for a total of 4 hours. The channel template used in this trial run was 50 cm wide by 3 cm deep.
The flume was first run for three hours under low flow (0.3 L/s) in order to condition the bed. There was very little morphologic change during this period and little sediment transport occurred. Following the conditioning of the bed, flow was increased to 1.3 L/s in order to simulate the occurrence of as large flood event. Bed morphology changed rapidly and sediment transport increased dramatically immediately following the increase in discharge. All sediment sizes, except the largest size class, were observed to be mobile during this magnitude of flow.
