\"DSC_0117\"<\/a>Geotechnical Engineering Competition<\/strong>\u00a0|\u00a0Undergraduate Competition<\/span><\/p>\n

The Geotechnical Engineering Competition (GEC) is a competitive event spearheaded by GeoRox back in 2013. In teams of four, students compete against each other in a simulated geotechnical design problem. The teams are given six hours to apply their skills and knowledge to develop a solution. At the end of the allotted time, they are to present their findings to a panel of judges.<\/span><\/p>\n

The students have an opportunity to \"DSC_0100\"<\/a><\/span>enhance their technical and soft skills by\u00a0competing. Students in 2nd and 3rd year are introduced to industry-standard software. Students in 4th year have the opportunity to practice their leadership and managerial skills. After the competition, all students also have the chance to network with the competition judges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Annual Alumni & Industry Dinner<\/strong>\u00a0|\u00a0Networking Event<\/span><\/p>\n

For over two decades, the GeoRox Alumni \"\"<\/a>and Industry Dinner has brought together over 150\u00a0 industry members, alumni, and students\u00a0for a night of dining and networking. This event provides an excellent opportunity to share experiences and expose students to the many employment opportunities post-graduation. It also features presentations from our alumni, sharing their success in the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>GeoRox is excited to plan the 23rd Annual Alumni and Industry Dinner for January 25, 2025. With incredible industry support, active alumni, and motivated undergraduate students, we look forward to another successful dinner!<\/span><\/p>\n

Annual Distinguished Lecture<\/strong> | Professional Development Event<\/span><\/p>\n

The Distinguished Lecture is a \"\"<\/a>public lecture co-hosted with the Vancouver Geotechnical Society. Boasting over 120 attendees each year, this event is an excellent opportunity for students and industry members to come together and learn about technical topics from current experts who are at the top of their field. This event also presents an excellent opportunity for students to network with local professionals with similar interests.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recent topics have included\u00a0case\u00a0studies\"\"<\/a> of tailings dam\u00a0failures,\u00a0 studies of landslide triggers, sustainability in the mining industry, and remote sensing technology. We look forward to continuing on this event in March 2025!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
