The UBC Pre-Law Association is a distinguished and AMS-sanctioned club that is committed to providing undergraduate students with guidance and support to help them pursue a successful career in the field of law. Pre-Law Association provides access to a wealth of resources that will assist and navigate individuals interest in the field the various possibilities and necessary preparations required to achieve goals within Law. This society offers an extensive and immersive networking opportunity with current lawyers, future lawyers, and other like-minded individuals who share a passion for the law. By participating in its activities and events, I have gain valuable insights, knowledge, and connections that helped me take my first steps towards a promising future career in Law.

UBC Law and Society

The UBC Law and Society minor courses are designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the complexities of law and legal processes. Through an interdisciplinary approach that draws from various fields of scholarship, including law, sociology, history, anthropology, and political science, this course aims to develop students’ critical thinking skills and provide them with frameworks for analyzing legal issues in a global, historical, and Canadian context. The courses delves into the relationships and connections between law and society, exploring questions such as the locus of legal authority, the purpose and goals of the law, the reasons why individuals may choose to obey or disobey the law, the interplay between law and morality, and the diverse historical, geographical, and conceptual approaches to law and legality. With its rigorous and comprehensive curriculum, this course is ideal for students who are passionate about legal studies and interested in deepening their understanding of the intricate relationships between law and society.

However, UBC’s AMS-sanctioned club was established for members – regardless of whether they are a candidate of this minor or not – to navigate through the countless options with the field of Law and Society. The club provides opportunities for members to engage in discussions, events, and activities related to legal issues and social justice.
