Guess who just wished me luck on my knowledge test on Twitter!
Yup, it’s ICBC! What a nice gesture!
Before I got into digital marketing, I really was not into social media at all, especially Twitter. Facebook is mainly for group projects I did in school, Instagram is for private use, and I post a picture like once a month… Snapchat, Tumblr, Google Plus, even LinkedIn, I was forced to have an account when I was taking COMM 202(You know what I’, talking about if you are a Sauderite!). I joined Twitter in 2010, and never really used it. Yup, I was one of the ghost accounts. I always find constant notification was unnecessary and annoying, not to mention the privacy part! Everyone knows your favorite drink, your weekend plan, or your past relationships as long as they know your name.
Until one of my favorite celebrities, Ellen Degeneres (Yesss!) initiated a retweet challenge while she was in the middle of hosting Oscar, of course, I retweeted her picture and joined the rest of 3.3 million people. That’s when I realized what social media can do, and I started to use Twitter again.
Of course, I’m much more knowledgeable about social media than I first joined Twitter. I followed a few local public accounts, like City of Vancouver, MyVancouver, etc. I retweeted them, used relevant hashtags, and @ people who are involved! So far, I’ve got @SauderSchoolofBusiness to answer my questions, now I’ve got ICBC to wish me luck on my knowledge test! I’m starting to gain followers, quite a few a day!
Hope my experience can help you to attract Twitter Followers! Best of Luck! And don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @GiaXu !
