This shift was most pronounced in the second generation Indo-Canadians, and was also correlated with significant dietary changes, specifically, an increased consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"840\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gibsonlab\/files\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-07-at-3.14.11\u202fPM-840x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gibsonlab\/files\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-07-at-3.14.11\u202fPM-840x1024.png 840w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gibsonlab\/files\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-07-at-3.14.11\u202fPM-246x300.png 246w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gibsonlab\/files\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-07-at-3.14.11\u202fPM-768x936.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gibsonlab\/files\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-07-at-3.14.11\u202fPM.png 1176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On average, 61% of calories consumed daily by Indo-Canadians were from UPFs, whereas UPFs made up only 12% of the daily caloric intake in Indians living in India.
