This lab consisted on using Fragstats to explore how land use and land cover has changed over the decade from 1966 to 1976 in Edmonton. Fragstats was used to compute several metrics measuring aspects such as total patch area and dimensions, patch shapes, density, core counts and core areas, and overall patch connectivity to evaluate landscape fragmentation and its impacts on local wildlife.
Using this data, a transition matrix was generated in Excel to display the various ways different land use classes have evolved over time. A sample of one of the land use maps created is shown below.
