My goal in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edst.educ.ubc.ca\/programs\/mea\/courses.htm\">taking courses<\/a> on globalization and adult learning is to establish a knowledge-base in pedagogies, and to bring that knowledge to my information literacy efforts. <em>Search<\/em> is affected by global change which I have written about &lt;a href=&#8221;http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/googlescholar\/2006\/08\/<i>Glocalization<\/i>-in-Search&#8212;Is-this-Search-2.0?\/&#8221;&gt;here<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/googlescholar\/2006\/07\/More-Openness-When-Searching-the-World's-Libraries\/\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/googlescholar\/2006\/03\/CMAJ-&amp;-the-World-Is-Flat\/\">here<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"me.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/googlescholar\/files\/2009\/02\/me.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"153\" class=\"right\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My goal during my 2007 sabbatical is to understand emerging knowledge-based societies, and their implications for learning. Some of the <strong><u>specific research goals<\/u><\/strong> that I plan to pursue:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <em>To read<\/em> widely about post-industrial digital and <a href=\"http:\/\/culturescope.ca\/ev_en.php?ID=1679_201&amp;ID2=DO_TOPIC\">knowledge-based societies<\/a>;<br \/>\n&#8211; <em>To understand<\/em> how new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facetpublishing.co.uk\/pantry_chap1.pdf#search=%22e-information%22\">e-information<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/strategis.ic.gc.ca\/epic\/internet\/inict-tic.nsf\/en\/Home\">technologies<\/a> create learning opportunities for all, despite varying resources, geographies, cultures, economies and religio-political affiliations of participants;<br \/>\n&#8211; <em>To research<\/em> how radical, new forms of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_software\">social software<\/a> can be used to create new forms of learning, and hence knowledge;<br \/>\n&#8211; <em>To research and write about<\/em> open-access publishing (and search) to improve <a href=\"http:\/\/hlwiki.slais.ubc.ca\/index.php?title=Evidence-based_health_care\">evidence-based medicine<\/a>;<br \/>\n&#8211; <em>To contextualize<\/em> knowledge to inform my teaching, and professional practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new, dual professionalism for librarians requires us to be teachers.
