Preparation 20: Social enterprise and the arc initiative

” If  the United Nations was fully funded why would we need the Arc or social enterprise”?

 As we know, the United Nations is “an international organization founded by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.”

However, this organization is too big to focus on each small area precisely. Indeed the United Nations tries its best to reach every corner of the world, but it is still far from reaching the expected results. There is no such thing as perfection. None of the organizations can function perfectly well, so they need help of others. That’s why Arc or social enterprise exists.

From my point of view, Arc or social enterprise is like a miniature version of the United Nations, but it applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being .Social enterprise can focus on and handle small issues that the United Nations ignores. Social enterprise exists in different countries and cities, and they are more familiar with the native cultures, economy, and problems, so it is more easily for them help these areas. Also, since social enterprises spread “everywhere”, people who need help can directly find them.

The United Nations tend to concern about big problems(War Crimes Prosecution, Fighting AIDS)among countries over the world, and the Arc or social enterprise use their income to focus on small aspects within some impoverished areas.

Stonyfield does a great job of staying true to their brand by creating a targeted theme within their blog. All the designs of its blog site, such as advertisement, articles, pictures, reinforce the theme- Organic.

Also, as you can see from the image below, they include pictures of healthy families and articles about healthy living, reinforcing their theme of family and healthy living.
Their main product is organic yogurt and they use videos in a very genuine, behind-the-scenes kind of way. The videos show the way they grow and select fruit for customers. The bright color of fruit just makes people start to make one run at the mouth. Many of their videos come from the farm of an organic dairy farmer in Vermont, who supplies milk for their products.  The contents that are showed in Stonyfield’s videos allow their audience to know, like and trust them.

In addtion, their web design is comfortable and pictures on it are eye-catching. Stonyfield Farms keeps things simple and allows some visual open space for readers to rest their eyes. It is crucial to have simple web designs to allow the user to quickly find the information they need, especially if you are selling a product.

Another thing they do very well is their use of soft sales messages contextualized in value-added content. For example, they write an article about the importance of eating organic fruit, but weave in the idea of mixing Stonyfield yogurt in with your fruit for an extra dose of nutrients.
