It has been reported that latest declaration from Taseko’s controversial New Prosperity mine project was hit by the latest declaration from First Nations. The Tsilhqot’in have incorporated the area that has been decided for the project within the park’s boundaries. Large-scale mining and clear-cut logging will not be allowed within the park, so Taseko’s project might be destroyed.
From my point of views, this situation is just like the “Regulatory trends” in Osterwalder’s Business Model Environment. The declaration would strongly affects the continuous of the mining project. The company should get the consent from the First Nations before starting its project. Otherwise, many conflicts would occur.
I suppose that government should do a survey, asking people who they would like to see managing that area, First Nations, or Taseko. I think that this area belongs to all the people in BC and citizens have the choice to choose what they want; especially when the mining project would pollute the natural habitats. Personally, I do favor of First Nations since their intention is positive while Taseko ‘s goal is to make as much money as possible.
