Great question – and what happens to the instructor’s motivation when he/she gives their energy to supporting the challenge but is met with indifference/lack of preparation?
I’m wondering how motivation ties in the challenge and support matrix . A hi-hi environment but with student’s that are not motivated seems clearly unproductive. A common problem in physics TA training is that many TAs neglect teaching for research pursuits and so are not motivated to learn or participate in TA training environment… so any ideas how to balance challenge/support and motivation?
