As John warned, the creation of the quiz in Moodle can be a front-loaded process, so I followed his advice and started working on mine earlier in the week. Sure enough, just creating the first multiple-choice question took me over an hour, even using the Moodle user’s guide! Thank goodness for that guide, or else this would have taken me all week. However, in saying that, once I got the hang of creating the specific types of questions, (multiple-choice, matching, etc.) the process was a lot less difficult. I got into the quiz-making groove, and started to have fun playing around with all the various options for giving specific feedback for certain answers, timing for the quiz, and embedding images and links, (and yes, I know how nerdy that sounds). After many hours of work, lots of tweaking, and using my roommate as a quiz-tester, I came up with a product that I think is quite an effective assessment tool, providing specific, instant feedback. Like with learning anything new in Moodle, it took some effort to become familiar with the quiz tool, but it was certainly worth the effort. I’m sure it will become easier and faster each time I use it.
