Current Healthcare System

Medicine is an important pillar of the current structure of society. It is a projection of Scientific dogmas. Scientific dogmas to us is what the Ten Commandments was to a Catholic Church in Europe during the Dark ages. We don’t think about it, we don’t doubt it, we do it. In North America, as the emphasis on religion shifted onto profit and personal wealth, institutions are erected, human values are placed second after the profit of private owners of trade and industry. To maintain the stability of the state the constructs must not be shaken; to not shake the constructs is to repeat them, memorize them and pass them on. And this method of education maintains social order in this Capitalist system. Confucius once said:

“One who rules through the power of Virtue is analogous to the Pole Star: it simply remains in its place and receives the homage of the myriad lesser stars.”  (2.1)

It suggests social order can be derived from personal conduct. By physical mastering ritual forms (li) one can inherit Confucian ideals such as brotherliness, righteousness and filial piety (Ivanhoe, 2001). The difference between the Capitalist system and Confucian system is Confucians believe in culture, especially Zhou culture, unlike Capitalist system that believes culture is optional.

Current Canadian healthcare system is about universal access to medical services provided on the basis of need. In our Utopia, there is a more efficient health care system. The lack of efficiency in current healthcare stems from the lack of communication between disciplines and the heavy workload on each practitioner.

Confucius said: “Having merely set your heart sincerely upon ren, you can be sure of remaining free of odium.” (4.4)
