Defining Law
Before we delve into defining the necessity of this ministry, let us define what ‘law’ means in our society today. Simply put, standards that are enforced by punishments is law. The law governs our behavior and serves as a mediator between people. Whether it is politics or economics, the law dictates what can be done and what cannot. The purpose of law defines the law; to sustain societal order, and to prevent individuals from wrongdoings. Order is necessary for humans to live harmoniously with one another, and although, this may seem like a stretch, it is what constitutes our well-being and security. As aforementioned, we believe that happiness is attained when people are kept within a state of stability and safety.
Application of traditional Chinese thought to present-day society
Since we are structuring our Utopian society by making reforms to present-day Canadian society, it is imperative for us to have a understanding of the existing socio-political situation. After giving much thought, we have agreed GDP is reciprocal to the standard of living; and for a country to run efficiently, a firm system of law must be implemented. After giving much thought, we have agreed that Mozi’s notion of ‘state consequentialism’ is most applicable to the society that we live in today. He defined an ideal state to be prosperous of wealth, population and order. The Ministry of Law, as we call it, we be responsible of sustaining ‘order’ within the state. For this to be attained, we need to lay out the following two components: how the law is established, and how the law is enforced.
