Proposed Education Structure

Education is the responsibility of the provinces in Canada, where each provincial government provides funding and regulates the schools within its jurisdiction. The federal government helps fund tertiary education. Education will follow a three level model that is composed of:

  1. Primary Education (4x terms per school year) : Kindergarten – Year 6
  2. Secondary Education (4x terms per school year): Year 7 – Year 12
  • Education is compulsory up until Grade 10, where students may opt to finish their secondary education and pursue other goals. If students wish to continue with secondary education, a further 2 years of study will be undertaken. At the end of aforementioned 2 years, students will sit externally administered final exams that act as tertiary education qualifiers.
  • Subject availability will vary from school to school.

  • Senior Secondary Education: Year 11 – Year 12

> Students now have free rein, and are able to pick the courses they deem relevant in their pursuit of tertiary education.

> Minimum number of courses: 5

> Maximum number of course: 7

We also propose that high schools and tertiary education institutions (particularly technical institutions) offer programs which students may choose to study as part of their Senior Secondary Education courses.

Support and guidance should also be offered to students who opt to finish their studies after completing Year 10. They should be made aware of the various Technical and Further Education, and vocation Education and Training institutions, and the programs they offer.

3. Tertiary Education

  • Universities
  • Technical and Further Education colleges
  • Vocation Education and Training institutions
