Who’s W?

Wing lives her life as a constant migrator and explorer. She was born in a small city of the middle eastern part of China, spent the later half of her childhood and early adolescent years in Beijing, lived in Calgary for three years of high school, currently stays in Vancouver for university, enjoys the wonderful life in the West coast and is getting ready to travel to her next destination, Copenhagen, in the coming school year for exchange study. Moving around has not always been easy to her, she struggled for the sense of belongingness and had a hard time coming up with a sound answer for questions like “Where are you from?” However, as much as the trouble it brings, her lifestyle opens her up to the very opportunity to see and understand the dynamic state of the world and also within herself. She now learns the beauty of it and starts to take advantages of the way she lives, exploring more about the globe, people’s life and values of different cultures, incorporating the experience to re-discovering and developing herself.

Wing is currently in her second year undergraduate study in UBC and first year in GRS. Although back a few years ago, She did not really picture herself in university doing professional studies on food systems and sustainable development, she has always had the passion for food. Food education came to Wing much earlier than school, sprouting in her mind when she was a kid, helping out watering plants in her grandpa’s garden and feeding chickens in the yard. Being raised to perceive food as the gift of the land and people’s hard works, she then experienced how food was produced, consumed and valued differently across many regions over the world through her life transition. The child of the land had many questions about the era which food simply come from the supermarkets, then she decided why not take it further with an academic approach and seek the answers herself.  After entering the university and learned more the complexity of global food systems, she was more drawing into the field, and would like to put in more effort to explore and learn!

This blog will mainly be about the Wing’s passion for food, interesting things she learned from classes and in life, stuff relates to her degree of study and possibly random ramblings, well keep that one to the minimal.

Share your wonders about the world, leave your words. Wooohoooo! : )
