3 Minute Thesis Competition

The details for UBC’s 2nd annual 3-Minute Thesis competition are available at: http://3mt.grad.ubc.ca/

This is an opportunity for grad students to present their thesis in three minutes and one slide in a campus-wide competition. Initial heats are held in the faculty, and Nursing will be with other departments in Applied Science this year. The heat will be in February, with campus-wide semi-finals and finals in March.

Please let your programme coordinator know of your interest in participating.

This conversation is open to all grad students in nursing at UBC. No need to RSVP, just come as you are! We will finish by 1pm so there will be no class conflicts.

We are aware that many graduate students are not anywhere near campus (or even the Lower Mainland). We would be happy to arrange teleconference by Skype if anyone needs to attend from a distance. The GSNA’s Pub Club has an exciting line-up of topics for 2012! Please join your fellow nursing graduate students every 2nd Thursday of each month (except in February, it’s the third week) @ 4:30pm at Mahoney and Sons on campus for a drink and informal conversation about publishing and getting your research out there!

Facilitator: Cindy Masaro
Cindy is an incredibly dynamic PhD candidate in the SON. She has worked at the Center for Disease Control for over 10 years and this has fueled her passion for research involving women’s dating habits and sexual risk taking behaviour. Her research has been featured by a variety of  media outlets and she continues to push the envelope around how healthcare providers conceptualize women’s sexual behaviour. Thanks to all who came out to our inaugural Pub Club on Tuesday, November 1st! We had  great time with Master’s and PhD students chatting over drinks about pearls and pitfalls of collaboration and publication. Don’t worry if you missed this one – another Pub Club is coming soon! The next event will be on campus. Stay tuned for details!
