Flexibility Prescription

Flexibility is an important part of any fitness regime.  As we age our muscles and joints stiffen and lose some of their elastic properties.  Following a regular stretching routine becomes a priority to maintain a healthy range of motion of the joints, and keep the muscle limber to perform activities of daily living, recreate in sport, and remain pain free for a long, happy, and healthy life.

 

 

Here is a guide to some basic stretches you can follow to feel a full body stretch after a workout or after a light warm-up.

Gill and Alim modelling stretches of the Shoulder, Arm, and Sides (Obliques)

Full stretch of the trunk, back and shoulders

Focussing on the quadriceps, hamstrings, and gluts, Also great practice of balance!

Stretch for the gluts and hamstrings, then Butterfly for the internal thigh muscles

Incorporating some Yoga postures to stretch the back and abdominals. Upward- and Downward- Dog.
