{"id":241,"date":"2013-03-28T16:03:50","date_gmt":"2013-03-28T23:03:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gwarner\/?page_id=241"},"modified":"2013-03-28T19:32:23","modified_gmt":"2013-03-29T02:32:23","slug":"success-stories","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gwarner\/success-stories\/","title":{"rendered":"Success Stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We want to share one of our Success Stories with you!<\/p>\n<p>Although our regular clientele are generally set up with fairly basic training plans with mid resistance and aerobic workouts, we do get the occasional masters athlete wanting to reclaim their youth through fitness and some moderate competition.<\/p>\n<p>Our good friend\u00a0<strong>Steve Larssen <\/strong>came to<strong><em> Vitality Fitness<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>almost three years ago, wanting an introductory plan in the hopes to get back into shape to compete in some local cross-country ski races. \u00a0 Previously a competitive long distance runner, triathlete and XC skier, we knew it wouldn\u2019t be long until Steve was asking for more! Here\u2019s a little more on Steve:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gwarner\/files\/2013\/03\/61735_427867803954861_434808688_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-244\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gwarner\/files\/2013\/03\/61735_427867803954861_434808688_n-204x300.jpg\" width=\"204\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gwarner\/files\/2013\/03\/61735_427867803954861_434808688_n-204x300.jpg 204w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gwarner\/files\/2013\/03\/61735_427867803954861_434808688_n.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 204px) 100vw, 204px\" \/><\/a>Steve is a 59 year old, recently retired professional who identifies himself as a cross-country skier, a dedicated dog-walker, a nurturing grandparent, a brew-master, an intrepid traveller, and a community volunteer.<\/p>\n<p>Entering retirement, Steve came to us at\u00a0<em>Vitality Fitness Club,\u00a0<\/em>wanting to reach new heights with his nordic skiing. \u00a0He is currently very active, running, swimming, cycling or skiing around 3 hours each week, but hasn\u2019t had any resistance training or gym experience since he was an athlete in his 20\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>We put Steve through the ropes and \u00a0you can see his\u00a0health screening\u00a0and fitness tests for\u00a0musculoskeletal\u00a0and\u00a0aerobic\u00a0fitness. <a title=\"sample tests\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/gwarner\/services\/health-screening\/sample-tests\/\">Go to: Sample Fitness Tests<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After some initial testing we discussed with Steve what he wants to get out of his commitment to train with Vitality Fitness and came up with the following goals:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Short term Goal:<\/strong>\u00a0<em>&#8220;I want to become more familiar with the training equipment available to me at the gym I attend. \u00a0I currently spend much of my time spinning or running but want to see what I can achieve with the addition of resistance equipment to my routine. \u00a0I\u2019m concerned that I\u2019m losing muscle mass and hear that is an indicator of frailty in my later years&#8230;my much later years.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Long term Goal:\u00a0<\/strong><em>\u201dI\u2019ve been a cross-country skier for years, and now without work to get in the way, I now have time to take my training to the next level and compete more seriously in the next season. \u00a0I would like to achieve a level of fitness that I can compete in the upcoming ski season starting in january and take my skiing to the BC Seniors Games with a couple of my buddies.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We want to share one of our Success Stories with you!
