First Nations and Indigenous Studies 100 is an introductory level course where you learn about the historical, cultural, political, economic and legal issues that realtime to the Aboriginal people of Canada. Within this course we learned more about the Metis peoples and the complexities that surround the definition itself. My big idea is based on the complexities of Metis people and how that correlates to the numerous definitions. The most influential factor in choosing my big idea was my ancestry because I am Metis myself with Cree and Blackfoot background. Even being Metis myself I haven’t been aware of any of the issues that have effected the Metis peoples and their ability to identify. As I continue to research for my big ida I have come to learn about the vast varieties of way that Metis people are viewed, for one word their are numerous amounts of definitions. The aspect of my big idea that I am most proud about is my ability to have some impact or voices in the many opinions revolving around the complexities of being Metis.
