Ethical Issues

Business ethics is defined to be the proper business practices and policies considering controversial issues that are things such as corporate governance, bribery and discrimination. Business ethics are implemented in order to ensure that a certain level of trust between consumers and other participants within the market exists.

One ethical issue recently can been found from UBC’s “Frosh rape chants.” This incident took place during the Sauder FROSH, a three day orientation from the Sauder faculty to welcome the new coming undergraduate students. When thinking of this incident managerial wise, I could firstly imagine the brand implication. For UBC, the rape chants have given a huge damage to the “Sauder Reputation.” On top of that, accounting implication wise, I also anticipated that this incident would decrease the number of international and domestic students, resulting a low average of income. If I were a student, who is in other words a stake holder for this enterprise (UBC), one solution I would suggest to resolve this problem is by finding a new student achievement. By creating a new idea that grabs the media’s attention, this could let the media think more about the achievements rather than the rape chants.
