I grew up in a large family, five brothers and three sisters to be exact. Having so many siblings inspired my social side and my nurtured my ability to maneuver an array of social dynamics and calmly resolve a variety of issues. I used my social understanding to manage one of the busiest Cora in Western Canada. While this position was enjoyable I found that it was not a good fit for me. I left my job and began a journey in search of a profession that would be a more fulfilling use of my skill set.
For the past four years I have been working on a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at UBC. Because I did not know what I wanted to do I decided to try to expose myself to a plethora of disciplines and ideas. This has been a wonderful experience since I truly love learning. My love for education partially comes from being home schooled for a large portion of my childhood and wanting desperately to go to school, but mostly it stems from a desire to continually evolve my perspective. I feel that I am the best version of myself when I am learning, being confronted by difficulty or being pulled out of my comfort zone.
I guess this is also why I love to travel; when you are on the road there is truly no such thing as a comfort zone. Before I began my studies my husband and I took a motorcycle and a tent and traveled for a year from Germany to Egypt. We explored roughly sixteen countries, including Syria and Iraq. This trip was an amazing adventure and I am so thankful for the experience and insights that it has given me.
Both travel and university have taught me so much about my interests, my limits and my ambitions. I know now I would like to work in the field of Internal Communication. This course is one of the final courses for the completion of my degree and I am so excited to be here with all of you learning a skill that will help us succeed in our “dream job” – whatever it might be!
