Acumen Fund

Acumen Fund is a social enterprise that invests and supports emerging leaders and innovative ideas in hopes to create a world beyond poverty. Acumen believes in reducing the problems of global poverty by using entrepreneurship. The problem that Acumen realizes is that even though there is much wealth being created through globalization and technological advancements; however, the gap between rich and poor is increasing. Acumen provides patient capital which is equivalent to a loan. The patient capital yield both financial and social returns and the financial capital is then put into new investments.

Providing financial capital is efficient in reducing poverty because it allows people to receive a loan, whereas they would not have been able to receive a loan otherwise. Patient capital allows people to be self-sufficient and come out of poverty. Providing patient capital is superior to traditional charity because charity often addresses the problem short term, whereas patient capital addresses the problem long term. This is due to the fact that traditional charity makes people dependent. However, patient capital allows people experiencing poverty to become independent and earn money in a way that allows them to gain a sense of dignity and self-stability.
