Gabe who is featured in our success story resulted in:
Health Screening:
Resting Heart Rate – 60 bpm
Blood Pressure – 125/85
These values indicate that Gabe was a healthy individual to participate in our personal training regime.
Aerobic Fitness:
Astrand Rhyming – 28 ml/kg/min – below average for his age category
This VO2 max value is considered low and indicates that a cardiorespiratory program should be implemented, especially since one of our client’s main goals was to be “less winded when playing with his grandchildren.”
% HRmax
- Est. max. HR (b∙min-1) = 208 – (0.7 x age)
- 208 – (0.7 x 56)
- 169 beats per minute
%HRR
- HRR= HRmax – HRrest
- = 169 – 60
- = 109
- Training zone= %intensity (HRR) + HRrest
Musculoskeletal Fitness Assessment:
Chair Test – 16 completed chair stands in 30 seconds – average category
A value of 16 suggested that Gabe was average in leg musculoskeletal strength and endurance. As one of Healthy Wise’s goals is to improve our client’s ability for daily functional living, increasing this value was of importance.
Goals:
With Gabe’s results, short and long term goals were determined. Gabe’s short term goal was to walk for 30 minutes on the treadmill at a heart rate of 93-109 bpm. His long term goal was to complete 10 full pushups. At the end of the 6 months, Gabe was successful in both his short term and long term goals.
