We can see that areas with the highest annual average daily maximum temperature are inland and adjacent to the Fraser River, including Port Coquitlam and Maple Ridge. The areas with the lowest annual average temperature are near the coast, at higher elevations, and are forested. This makes sense because increasing elevation decreases temperature, and being adjacent to the sea brings sea breezes that moderate temperature. White Rock is also a hot spot and is an exception since it is adjacent to the coastline. This could be due to local effects such as the lack of sea breezes in a sheltered bay.
