This blog has been established to fulfil a course assignment for LIBR 599M: Social Media for Information Professionals within the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies, for the MLIS degree at the University of British Columbia.<\/p>\n
This course examines major social media tools (i.e. blogs, wikis, social networking, Facebook and Twitter), their concomitant trends (i.e. web 2.0, library 2.0) and how the principles of interaction and collaboration can be applied to the provision of information services in the digital age.<\/p>\n
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
\n\u2022\u00a0Demonstrate a clear understanding of using social media in different information-based organizations
\n\u2022\u00a0Apply different types of social media to manage emerging challenges in information provision
\n\u2022\u00a0Discuss social media as a set of tools (and ‘types’ of tools) to raise library awareness and promote services
\n\u2022\u00a0Identify the pros\/cons of using social media
\n\u2022\u00a0Reflect critically on use of social media; trends, types and tools
\n\u2022\u00a0Position these trends in a larger (macro) global and sociocultural context for collaborative learning and education in the digital age<\/p>\n
