IMAGINE DAY TAKE 2

So last weekend I got to be a part of an amazing two day welcome into being … A SCIENCE MUG LEADER!

It was actually a lot more fun that I expected training to be. We played a lot of ice breakers and games that tested our knowledge of the Faculty of Science and the resources it offered to students. (Sidenote: MUG = My Undergraduate Group)

Guys, I am so unaware, and I don’t know how many of you are unaware and yeah I know it’s the second last week of school BUT BETTER LATE THEN NEVER?

We were quizzed on things like:

SPAC – Science Peer Academic Coaches, who are basically older students who are willing to help you and coach you academically 🙂

or

Speakeasy – Which is a (1) confidential, (2) free, (3) student service. They are basically people who are there to help first years because we all know what it was like those first few months.

I can’t say I’m completely adjusted now, but I do know I feel a lot more comfortable and I’m used to the campus and it’s beauty and I don’t care what anyone has to say about the money “wasted” but THAT FOUNTAIN IS GORGEOUS.

From the get-go there was a LOT of energy. Different squads (Squad 57 REPRESENT), different people, but LOTS and LOTS of enthusiasm  It was crazy! Squads made hilarious and creative cheers and it was competitive while being all about fun all at the same time!

We learned about low to high risk ice breakers, and about intercultural learning. The amount of diversity in UBC is ridiculous! AND AWESOME.

I want to say if you’re thinking about being a MUG leader and get freaked out realizing it might be a much bigger thing than you thought,  just remember that you get an honor of being one of the first people some of the first years meet at UBC.

I know I’m looking forward to Imagine Day!

MY MUGGIES, BE EXCITED.

…Guys can you imagine if somebody googled me after their MUG email went out and they see this and just get totally weirded out by me? …I don’t know if that’ll be a good thing or bad. I love you already muggies <3

Was I all over the place in this post?

My bad.

GUYS, THERE’S LIKE ONE WEEK OF SCHOOL LEFT!

IMAGINE!

Wow.

Literally, that’s all I can say.

My MUG name was Meiosis, don’t make fun of the nerdiness of it, there were several other  geeky science-y MUG (My Undergraduate Group) names. And I was on Squad 66 since I’m in the Coordinated Science Program (CSP). My MUG leader was Jason Lee and he was great! And hilarious and so full of energy it was hard to be sleepy. Though by the end of the day I was pretty wiped.

The Wow factor for me was the pep rally. Just. Wow. It was just so huge, there were so many people. It was so intense. Super intense. And now the science cheer is forever stuck in my head.

We are science, we’re so fine
Physics, Bio, Chemistry,
You can’t handle our degree!
Sci-ence, U-B-C!

I ALSO MET PEOPLE IN CSP, which is logical considering the fact that my squad, and therefore my entire MUG, was CSP students BUT STILL! The excitement of not having to face these classes alone is a big relief. It’s fun to be feeling things other than anxiety and nervousness.

*Sidenote: Has no one noticed the crazy amount of acronyms at UBC? It’s a bit crazy.

Okay! I will try to remember to eat well and sleep well!

C-S-P … P-P-P-P-POUND THAT SHIT!

Oh the cheers you learn…

I feel like there are a lot of things in store for me here at UBC.

UBC BE KIND TO ME.
