Teucrium hyrcanicum
Caucasian germander
Lamiaceae
Characteristics: Long spikes of purple flowers with tips ascending upwards. Looks like a salvia but without any fragrance. As the spikes bloom it has an ombre effect, going from dark to very light purple-grey. Decussate arrangement. A very good value herbaceous perennial. Blooms for 2.5 months.
Growing conditions: Can tolerate shade but prefers open sun. Foliage doesn’t burn in full sun. Can be cut back for winter but doesn’t necessarily need to.
Limitations: Looks tired/not very good in the fall because it doesn’t want to stop growing.
