Characteristics: Excellent evergreen ground cover with a decumbent habit. Bugs love it. Crassifolia = thick leaf. If you rub the leaves it makes a squeaking sound like a pig. Brilliant magenta-pink racemes of bell shaped flowers that bloom February – April. Common in Vancouver. It will look the same in ten years.
Growing conditions: Very tough, long lived, low maintenance and hardy. Shade. Drought tolerant
Limitations: Weevils are it’s only significant pests (generally where there are rhododendrons and cats).
