At the time, the act was heralded as activism and celebrated, despite co-opting Indigenous land. In the UBC student newspaper, Point Grey was referred to as \u201cwilderness\u201d, despite being stewarded by Indigenous people.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Today, the memory of the \u201cGreat Trek\u201d is used to name events and scholarships. Each year, a commemorative race occurs\u00a0honouring\u00a0the trek.
