iPhone 5C promotes iPhone 5S

Apple has unveiled the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5C.  As the two new products releases, a lot of compares are done to the new products and the original iPhone 5 and a lot of people commented “won’t buy the new iPhones as they have the original one”, which suggests people think they new products have not improved a lot.

The two new iPhones have a slightly different appearance than the original iPhone 5.  iPhone 5S has new three new colurs: gold, silver and spcae gray.  iPhone 5C has a polycarbonate (plastic) casing with 5 new colours.  Comparing the dimensions and the weight , the new iPhone 5C is found to be thicker and heavier then the original iPhone 5, while iPhone 5S’s dimensions remains the same as iPhone 5.  For the internals, iPhone 5C has the same internals as iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S has an improved camera.  To conclude, the two new products have not improved much from the original iPhone 5.

So why did Apple launch this two new products?

In my opinion, the two new iPhones are the marketing strategies of Apple.  For the iPhone 5S, as done previously, Apple tends to launch a slightly improved version of the iPhone some time after the successful launch of the original version to attract people’s attention.  For the iPhone 5C, although a lot of people commented “it’s just a plastic iPhone 5”, it has a great impact on the sales of iPhone 5S. Imagine yourself as a customer in the Apple Store, seeing the two new products, a plastic smartphone and an improved iPhone 5 with a price a hundred dollars higher, which one would you choose?  iPhone 5S would probably be your choice.  In other words, Apple launched a “not worth buying product” iPhone 5C  to help promote a slight improved product and gave people a better impression of the new iPhone 5S.
