Primary Goal of This Mesocycle: Sport & Movement Specific (pre-season)
Week 17 – Week 24
The third and last mesocycle focuses on refinement of the skills needed for that athlete’s sport. This training happens in pre-season and does not focus on building muscle but more on strengthening the neural pathways and perfecting the specific movements required. This stage incorporates all stages prior in the sense that good endurance is needed to play at game pace, strength and power are needed to become faster and also provide agility to evade defenders.
At this stage of training, its time to hit the playing field. On field training and in this case, practicing with the team and perfecting movement with other teammates is key for performance. Running routes and learning positional movement is also an important factor for winning games.
