The Beatrice Millar Fonds

The Beatrice Millar Fonds are part of the Beatrice Miller Ephemera Collection, comprising of pieces from the year 1911, with a lot of wartime paraphernalia and British Columbia-specific documentation. The collection was donated to the university in the 1970s.

Beatrice Millar worked for BC Hydro in the 1960s and 70s as a Home Service Consultant, responsible for coordinating the company’s customer information television and radio broadcast appearances. She collected materials in support of her function as a home economist, and the collection provides primary documentation of trends in home economics, women’s labour and the domestic arts. Special emphasis in the collection is on recipe compilations — many unpublished in any official manner.

The book “Home Canning, Drying and Preserving” is unique in the collection in that it is a published book, it isn’t a pamphlet and is essentially a compilation of many of Miller’s pamphlets she produced for the BC public.
