Hello all, my name is Melodie Bennett. I am currently in my 4th year with UBCO working towards finishing my BA Psych Major. This is the first technology course I have taken thus far, so I am a bit excited and anxious to ‘dip my toes’ into the world of technological communications. My academic interests are, of course psychology, but I am also very interested in Law. I originally aspired to become a Social Worker but during my time in my current position I have recently decided to change directions. I have yet to decide exactly what direction that may be. I have volunteered with both the Kelowna crisis line, with seniors running evening events, as well with the local food bank. Currently, I work as a Specialized front-line youth care worker with a MCFD at-risk juvenile delinquent female and these shifts are 24, 48, 72 hours long. For this reason I enjoy online learning as it offers flexibility for taking shifts, and I have done a majority of my degree online with UBC. That being said I have been taking more courses on UBCO campus and this course may be the last online course I am able to take. I am a ‘mature’ student of the ripe age of 37 and I have a 15 year old son whom I am a single mother to; we live in Kelowna BC. I am very excited to get into the trenches of this course as I know how important written, and verbal, communication is in the professional world and I feel that anybody could benefit from taking a course such as this one.
