Horse racing is a billion dollar industry in the United States alone, the largest branch being Thoroughbred racing, the one which this website focuses on. Horses are bred for speed and encouraged to run.

Jumping

  • Hunters
  • Jumpers

Jumping competitions may be judged or timed. Speed and ability are prized in a jumping horse.

 

 

Dressage

Dressage horses are bred for power, stamina and patience. Horse and rider execute complex maneuvers throughout a pattern.

 

 

Eventing

Eventing consists of three days of competition. One day horse and rider compete in jumpers, one day in dressage, and one day in cross country. Cross country is when the horse and rider compete in open terrain, over natural obstacles. It is a timed event, horses need to be brave, strong, and fast.

 

 

 

VaultingĀ 

Vaulting horses need to be calm, patient, and strong.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Driving

Driving horses pull people or objects with a harness and must be calm and strong.

 

 

Endurance

Endurance horses travel long distances and must cover lots of ground with their rider. These horses are bred for stamina.
